Police standoff nets 6 years in prison

A Hebron man convicted of terrorizing and assault on a peace officer was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Hebron man convicted of terrorizing and assault on a peace officer was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison.

George Fischer was convicted of the charges for an 8½-hour standoff at his home that ended when a SWAT team member shot him in the shoulder.

A judge sentenced the 53-year-old Fisher to consecutive five years on each count, with four years of the terrorizing sentence suspended.

Authorities say the March 4 standoff began after Fischer threatened a city employee who came to tell him his water service might be disconnected because of an unpaid bill.
