BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Three buildings on the South Dakota State University campus were closed for about two hours Tuesday and faculty and staff evacuated when nearby construction workers severed a natural gas line.
No injuries were reported.
The Student Union, the Nursing and Fine Arts Building and the Rotunda for Arts and Sciences were closed.
University spokesman Mike Lockrem estimated that about 25 people were evacuated from the fine arts and arts and sciences buildings. He did not have an estimate on the Student Union but said the campus is on semester break and there were no classes or student activities in any of the buildings at the time.
Lockrem said the leak was reported over the noon hour, and the buildings were reopened shortly before 3 p.m.
