Hospitals’ merger becomes official

The merger of Mayville’s Union Hospital with Fargo-based MeritCare has become official with the new year. The Mayville hospital is now called MeritCare Mayville Union Hospital and Clinic. Mayville is about 45 miles from Fargo.

FARGO (AP) — The merger of Mayville’s Union Hospital with Fargo-based MeritCare has become official with the new year.

The Mayville hospital is now called MeritCare Mayville Union Hospital and Clinic. Mayville is about 45 miles from Fargo.

The deal includes the building of a new clinic that is to be completed in the fall.

MeritCare late last year merged with Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health, forming Sanford Health & MeritCare. Officials say it is the nation’s largest not-for-profit rural health care provider.
