A new distillery has opened in southeast North Dakota.

Maple River Distillery, Casselton, N.D., is co-owned by Greg and Susan Kempel, who also own the Maple River Winery that was established there seven years ago.

“Opening this distillery is a fantastic way to showcase North Dakota products,” Greg Kempel said. “We pride ourselves in using fruit from the region including rhubarb, chokecherries and wild plums. We have over 300 producers that bring fruit to the winery and distillery from our region.”

The five products that have been produced so far include chokecherry vodka, rhubarb vodka, chokecherry cordial, rhubarb cordial and wild plum cordial.

All products are derived from fruits native to North Dakota and grown by more than 300 North Dakota producers. The Maple River Distillery retail store is open for sampling and sales from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday in Casselton. More information is available at www.maple riverdistillery.com.
