Snowmobile enforcement checks are being conducted by the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department at various locations along snowmobile trails in Cass, McHenry and Traill counties during the weekend of Jan. 22-24.
Similar checkpoints will be held throughout the snowmobile season in select locations across the state.
The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is charged with enforcement of the state snowmobile regulations and safety on more than 2,900 miles of snowmobile trails. The purpose of the checkpoint is to check compliance of snowmobile registrations, proof of liability insurance, operator’s current driver’s license or snowmobile safety certification card if snowmobile operators don’t have a driver’s license.
Enforcement officers will also be checking out-of-state snowmobiles for Out-of-State Public Trails and Land Access permits. These permits, required by law, can be purchased online by going to www.parkrec.nd.gov or they can also be purchased at any North Dakota state park.
All North Dakota registrations are required to be displayed on both sides of the snowmobile in a visible place. Snowmobiles can be registered at all North Dakota Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division offices.
In the season’s first enforcement check approximately 100 stops were made and 13 citations written in Ward and Ransom counties.
