A grain dryer fire at Reimers Elevator caused little or no damage Monday morning, according to Jamestown Fire Department Deputy Chief Jerry Kainz. Reimers Elevator is located at 223 Second St. S.W. in Jamestown.

“The owner called right away,” he said. “We stood by in case there was a flare up.”

Kainz said 29 firefighters were on the scene from about 8 to 9:30 a.m. There were no injuries associated with the fire.

The fire was comprised of smoldering corn at the top of the grain dryer unit. Kainz said the burning corn was manually removed from the dryer while the rest of the corn was monitored as it was moved to trucks.

“Usually these things don’t turn out this way,” Kainz said. “But the owner and the fire department have learned how to handle these things a little better over the years.”

A bushel of corn was lost in the fire.
