The guest speaker at the Jan. 11 Kiwanis meeting was Lance Hill from Bank of North Dakota on the topic of “College Savings Plans.”
Hill shared information on average student loan debt for a four-year college student and ways that planning ahead and saving can reduce the amount of debt students leave school with. Currently the average student has from $21,000 to $23,000 in student loan debt after four years and the cost of education is expected to continue to increase. Hill said 529 College Savings Plans are a “great way” to save for the college years. He discussed details about the 529 Plan that is specific to North Dakota along with the tax benefits and potential matching grant opportunities.
The next noon Kiwanis meeting is scheduled for Jan. 25 and the guest speaker will be Gary Krapu on “Sand Hill Crane Research in Siberia.”
Kiwanis meets weekly at the Lantern Room.
