Fargo autism center has money woes

The North Dakota Autism Center in Fargo is facing a funding shortfall of $40,000 after its first full year of operation. Volunteer Executive Director Sandy Smith says the recession and spring flooding made fundraising a challenge.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Autism Center in Fargo is facing a funding shortfall of $40,000 after its first full year of operation.

Volunteer Executive Director Sandy Smith says the recession and spring flooding made fundraising a challenge.

She says it also takes more money than expected to operate the center, which provides services to children with autism spectrum disorders.

Smith says she is not ready to give up. She says there are more than 220 people ages 3 through 21 with an autism spectrum disorder in Fargo-area schools.
