Fargo drop-in center for the homeless closes

FARGO (AP) — A drop-in center for the homeless in North Dakota’s largest city has closed, in the dead of winter.

The Rev. Rich Zeck with First United Methodist Church in Fargo said no one will be left out in the cold. A sign on the Wesley Center’s door directs clients to the Salvation Army and the Native American Center Project, a new daytime drop-in center.

The Wesley Center housed the Native American Christian Ministry, funded by First United Methodist and other churches. Sandi Berlin, the ministry’s part-time director, said about 40 people came to the center each day.

Zeck said closing the center is a temporary move meant to give the ministry’s board time to deal with a lack of resources and staffing. But no timetable has been set for reopening the center.
