Dakotas get more heating aid money

Programs in the Dakotas that help low-income people pay their heating bills are getting more federal money. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released about $1.2 million to both South Dakota and North Dakota.

BISMARCK (AP) — Programs in the Dakotas that help low-income people pay their heating bills are getting more federal money.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released about $1.2 million to both South Dakota and North Dakota.

The contingency funds are in addition to basic funding states receive for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, better known as LIHEAP. It helps eligible families pay for home heating and cooling and home weatherizing.
