About a dozen poles are down but most outages are being cause by wire breaks. The release said ice and frost are melting and falling off the lines, it causes the wires to “gallop” as they slap together.
Power outages are mainly in the Ashley, Forbes and Kulm areas, with scattered outages popping up in the Edgeley, LaMoure and Oakes areas and stretching across to the Hankinson area in Richland County.
Crews from Northern Plains Electric Cooperative in Carrington, N.D., are on their way to help with outages. All crews will be working to restore power to all accounts today.
DVEC advised customers to prepare for more outages as the wind picks up.
Report any damaged electric lines or poles by calling 1-800-342-4671.
