Gang crackdown in Mpls. area nets 26 suspects

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Federal immigration officials say a nationwide effort to crack down on gangs has led to 26 arrests in Minneapolis and surrounding communities.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Federal immigration officials say a nationwide effort to crack down on gangs has led to 26 arrests in Minneapolis and surrounding communities.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Wednesday the Minnesota arrests included nine gang members and 14 gang associates.

Three other people were arrested for immigration violations.

The arrests were part of a national crackdown on gangs with ties to drug trafficking. ICE says 476 alleged gang members have been arrested in 83 cities across the U.S.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the Minnesota arrests took place in Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Farmington, Howard Lake, New Hope, Richfield and Shakopee.
