Surrey bars won't get more hours

Bars in the north central North Dakota town of Surrey will not be getting extended hours.

SURREY, N.D. (AP) — Bars in the north central North Dakota town of Surrey will not be getting extended hours.

An ordinance change that would have allowed bars to extend their closing time from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. on a trial basis for three months failed to pass the City Council this week on a second reading.

The council earlier had voted to approve the ordinance change. Council member Dana Larsen said the change in the council's position happened because the majority of the town's residents wanted to keep the current closing time.
