BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Gov. John Hoeven says North Dakota is preparing to seek a federal disaster declaration for the storm that hit the state late last week and early this week.
Hoeven says he has declared a statewide winter storm disaster and has asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to begin assessing the financial impact of the storm, which downed thousands of power lines and left thousands of people without power.
Hoeven says a presidential disaster declaration would help communities, tribes and rural electric cooperatives recover costs associated with the storm.
