BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy says he would refuse a job as president of a lobbying group that represents the life insurance industry.
Pomeroy is a former North Dakota insurance commissioner, and he's been mentioned as a candidate for the job of president of the American Council of Life Insurers.
In a telephone interview with the Associated Press on Friday, Pomeroy said he is running for re-election, and he would decline the insurance job if it were offered to him.
At a news conference earlier, Pomeroy was asked three times if he would refuse to take the job. He did not answer directly.
In a later interview Pomeroy said he was trying to answer the question in his own words, and he didn't mean to be evasive.
