Man sentenced for manslaughter
A Dunseith man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on voluntary manslaughter and child abuse charges.
MINOT (AP) — A Dunseith man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on voluntary manslaughter and child abuse charges.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lynn Jordheim said 25-year-old James Haggerty was accused of throwing his 3-month-old child against a wall last March, causing injuries that killed the infant. Haggerty also was accused of abusing his 2-year-old child between September 2008 and March 2009.
Haggerty pleaded guilty to the charges last September. He will be on supervised release for five years following his prison term and also must pay more than $3,200 in restitution.
