U of M wrongly slaps late fees on tuition bills

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — About 44,000 University of Minnesota students in the Twin Cities were wrongly billed a $65 late tuition fee, a mistake that the school says has been corrected.

University spokesman Dan Wolter tells the Star Tribune of Minneapolis on Thursday that the error was made on the bills sent out this week.

He says any student who paid the incorrect late fee will receive a credit on their bill. Wolter says the billing errors existed for about 12-18 hours and should have been fixed as of Wednesday night.

The problem was limited to the university's Twin Cities campus, which has about 52,000 students.

Wolter says the university apologizes for the inconvenience.
