Two women rewrote the Jamestown College record book Saturday after the Jimmies competed at the Cobber Duals in Moorhead, Minn.
AnnaLiesa Fauth and Katie Conlon each set new school records in the 400-meter run and the 3,000-meter run, respectively.
Fauth broke Erin Bosiel’s record of 59.03, set back in 1996, by finishing second with a time of 58.99.
Conlon finished first to go along with her record-setting performance after finishing in a time of 10:07.97. The previous JC record was held by Christy Dockins, who ran a 10:11.67 back in 1994.
The victory in the 3000 was her second first-place finish of the day. She also edged out teammate Alyssa Bossler in the mile run.
“If Katie Conlon had not had such a stunning pair of performances today, Alyssa Bossler’s day would have stood out as one of the best distance doubles I have ever seen,” JC women head coach Jim Clark said.
Bossler finished runner-up in the 3000-meter run as well, behind Conlon.
Bossler qualified for the NAIA National indoor meet in both events after finishing with career-bests in both events.
Madey Hornung and the distance medley relay team also finished with top honors.
Hornung finished first in the 800-meter run and also ran a leg in the distance medley relay. Joining her was Emmy Bentley, Kallie Merrill and Sarah Skipper.
“I was very proud of our distance and middle runners,” Clark said. “We placed 1-2-4-7 in the 800, 1-2-6-8 in the mile and 1-2-3-7 in the 3000, in addition to winning the medley.”
Leif Rasmussen had a career day in the mile run for the Jimmie men.
Rasmussen finished second with a time of 4:24.38, a personal best for the senior runner.
“He ran a fantastic race to beat a number of Division I guys from NDSU and was a little over a second from making the national qualifying mark,” said Jimmie men’s head coach Ed Crawford.
Andrew Stoen matched his career best in the pole vault with a mark of 15-1. It was good enough for third place.
Josh Ewalt had a season-best time in the 55-meter hurdles (8.19), while Kelly Roemmich just missed the national qualifying mark in the 600-meter run by .27 seconds.
Jarann Johnson, Brent Jansen, Scott Roemmich and Nate Christensen teamed up to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:32.66, losing by just over five seconds to the Dickinson State squad.
“It was a good meet for us,” Crawford said. “Next week we are going for our national qualifying mark in the 4x800 relay and after what I saw from all those guys this weekend, I do think we will make it with room to spare.”
