Man sentenced in teen’s death

A Garrison man has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison in the death of a teenager on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation last winter.

BISMARCK (AP) — A Garrison man has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison in the death of a teenager on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation last winter.

Acting U.S. Attorney Lynn Jordheim said 22-year-old Jesse McKenna will be on supervised release for three years following his prison term on the voluntary manslaughter conviction and also must pay $5,534 in restitution.

McKenna’s co-defendant, 20-year-old Duane Bear of White Shield, received the same sentence last month.

The 16-year-old victim has not been identified. Authorities said the boy died of hypothermia after being carried outside by McKenna and Bear and left in the snow following a fight in December 2008.
