FARGO (AP) — Sanford Health-MeritCare has given the University of North Dakota medical school $1.5 million to start an endowment honoring longtime MeritCare chief executive Dr. Roger Gilbertson.
Gilbertson, a neuroradiologist for 30 years, served as president and CEO of MeritCare Health System for 17 years, from its beginning in 1993 until his retirement in 2009.
Fargo-based MeritCare late last year merged with Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health, forming Sanford Health-MeritCare. Officials say it is the nation’s largest not-for-profit rural health care provider.
