Group home for sex offenders rejected in Fargo

The Fargo Planning Commission has rejected a proposal for a group home in a downtown Fargo neighborhood that would serve sex offenders.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Fargo Planning Commission has rejected a proposal for a group home in a downtown Fargo neighborhood that would serve sex offenders.

The 5-2 vote came Wednesday after opposition by residents who packed the City Hall chamber.

The Christian Sports Commission had sought a permit to turn a home into a group home facility that could house up to 12 people. Project spokesman Craig Ritchie said it is difficult for sex offenders to find housing.

Fargo attorney Jonathan Garaas, who said he represented most or all of the immediate neighbors, brought up technical problems with the application that he said made it ineligible to be considered.
