N.D. GOP, conservative groups plan Bismarck rally

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Republicans and conservative groups are holding a rally in Bismarck Friday night, and a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate says it might help his own race.
Bismarck Democratic state Sen. Tracy Potter is seeking the party's endorsement to run for the U.S. Senate. Republicans expect Gov. John Hoeven will be their candidate.
Conservative Minnesota U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is the rally's featured speaker. She said recently that younger people who don't qualify for Medicare and Social Security will have to be ``weaned off' the programs because the nation can't afford them.
Potter says Hoeven has been a moderate governor, but he's courting conservatives in his U.S. Senate race. Potter says that will make it easier for Democrats to get support from independents.
