John Eugene Long, 83, Berlin, N.D., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at his home. Mr. Long was born on Sept. 16, 1926, in Berlin, the son of Charles and Clara (Freeze) Long.

John Eugene Long, 83, Berlin, N.D., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Long was born on Sept. 16, 1926, in Berlin, the son of Charles and Clara (Freeze) Long. He was raised on the family farm near Berlin by his father and Clara’s twin sister, Theresia, following his mother’s death. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Christina Aberle on May 30, 1949, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Berlin. They lived in the Berlin area. He was a member of Transfiguration Parish and the Knights of Columbus, third and fourth degrees, and served as an officer on the state and local level. He served on boards for the LaMoure County Farmers Union, LaMoure County ASC and the Edgeley Credit Union. He enjoyed farming, animals and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard, Francis, Leonard and Clem; a sister, Marcella Siebels; and two grandsons.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Patricia (Eugene) Hager, Washburn, N.D., Mary Kathryn (Richard) Schlosser, Edgeley, N.D., Sister Lillian Long, St. Paul, Minn., Jeanette (Daniel) Schmit, Fairmount, N.D., and Cindy (Jerome) Bjornstad, McVille, N.D.; six sons, John (Rosalie), Gackle, N.D.; Timothy (Lisa), Kintyre, N.D., Richard (Susan) and Michael (Susan), both Berlin; Charles (Kristina) and Thomas (Georgia), both Lisbon, N.D.; a sister, Sister Victorine Long, St. Paul, Minn.; 33 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. Monday, at the church.

Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, and one hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.
