DULUTH, Minn. — An Eveleth, Minn., man was charged Tuesday with assault, animal cruelty, selling drugs and illegally possessing a stun gun after police executed a search warrant at his residence last week.

Joshua Ray Gordon, 18, was arrested Thursday at his home in Eveleth. Officers executing a search warrant found 161 grams of marijuana, $2,300 in cash and a stun gun. He is accused of selling marijuana from his residence.

The prior day, Gordon allegedly assaulted a female companion, causing bodily harm.

Officers also found a beaten puppy that appeared someone had attempted to flush down the toilet.

All told, Gordon was charged with four crimes: sale of marijuana in the fourth degree (school zone); felony domestic assault; torture or cruelty to a pet or companion animal resulting in death or great bodily harm; and possession of a stun gun by a felon.

Police Chief Brian Lillis took the puppy to the Northland Animal Hospital in Virginia, Minn., where it received emergency care. The puppy’s condition appears to be improving, and early indications provide hope that the animal may be able to make a full recovery, according to a police report.
