The grant proposal was written by JMS Director of Band Ken Aune, JMS Director of Choir/Orchestra Jennifer Michalenko, and JPS Technology Coordinator Rae Ann Vandrovec.

“Rae Ann (Vandrovec) was really the key to our success. She presented us with the opportunity, helped us to organize and articulate our thoughts, edited and submitted our proposal, and even helped to oversee the installation of equipment and software. She is a real asset to our school district.” Aune said.

The funds were used to create computer workstations located in the music wing at JMS. Music software was chosen to align with the North Dakota Education Standards and Benchmarks, including: improvisation, composition, theory and notation.

Students are currently using the workstations throughout the school day, with plans to provide access before and after school. The school is also exploring options to provide Internet access to the software so students may work on their music at home.
