Bighorn sheep moved in badlands
Wildlife officials have captured and moved 14 bighorn sheep in the North Unit of western North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — Wildlife officials have captured and moved 14 bighorn sheep in the North Unit of western North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
The state Game and Fish Department project that wrapped up Monday is aimed at stemming disease in the growing herd and reducing crashes involving sheep and vehicles on U.S. Highway 85.
Biologist Brett Wiedmann said deep snow made it easier for officials in a helicopter to net the sheep, which were fitted with radio collars and released about 50 miles away.
Game and Fish wildlife veterinarian Dan Grove said no animals were hurt.
