Diseased fruit intercepted at border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they intercepted diseased and pest-ridden fruit at the Pembina border crossing.

PEMBINA, N.D. (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say they intercepted diseased and pest-ridden fruit at the Pembina border crossing.

Border officials say the fruit was in the possession of people traveling from Canada to Sun Belt states with large citrus industries.

They say the mandarin oranges seized in December and January had a disease and also a pest problem that so far have not been found in the United States.
