NWS issues new flood forecast with higher probability of flooding on James River

The latest flood forecast from the National Weather Service indicates a higher probability of flooding on the James River and Pipestem Creek this spring. The forecast was issued this morning and does indicate “at least some minor flooding is a near certainty in all basins and the probability of major flooding is substantial.”

The forecast updates the previous forecast of January 30 and anticipates a larger increase in the probability of flooding on Beaver and Cedar Creeks as well as the Cannonball, Little Missouri, Heart and Knife rivers and smaller increase in the probability of flooding on the James River and Pipestem and Spring Creek.

The chances of major flooding at Grace City was raised from 14 percent on January 30 to 69 percent now. The possibility of major flooding at LaMoure increased from 8 percent to 26 percent and the probability of major flooding at Ludden jumped from 22 percent to 71 percent.

The forecast is issued by the Bismarck office of the National Weather Service and includes river basins in the western portion of North Dakota.
