Potato stocks in North Dakota are down 13 percent from a year ago and 10 percent from 2008. The Agriculture Department says the amount of potatoes held by growers, dealers and processors in the state on Feb. 1 stood at 9 million hundredweight — the lowest Feb. 1 level in 21 years.
