Skaters leap to 13 firsts

The Jamesriver Figure Skating Club earned 13 first-place finishes and Libbie Allen, Sami Buhl, Morgan Huber and Abby Wenzel placed third as a team at the 13th Annual Red River Valley Figure Skating Classic in Moorhead Feb. 12-13.

Jamesriver skaters also accounted for nine second-place finishes, eight thirds, and four fourths in the 25-club event, which featured over 300 skaters from North Dakota and Minnesota. They earned trophies in 29 of 34 events.

Allen, Buhl, Huber and Wenzel placed third in the Team event at the Preliminary Level.

Six Jamesriver skaters also qualified for the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic by placing first, second or third in their individual artistic events.

Jocelyn Meidinger, who placed first in compulsory, free skate and artistic placed 6th in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic.

McKenzie Darling took top honors in free skate and artistic and was 6th in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic.

Huber captured first in artistic and placed 5th in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic competition.

Wenzel placed first in free skate and 17th in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic.

Buhl was fourth in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic, while Allen was ninth.

Emily Suckow (PrePreliminary) captured firsts in compulsory and artistic.

Beth Jensen did the same in Limited PrePreliminary.

Christina Radi placed first in free skate at the Limited PrePreliminary level.

Kaitlin Mullowney (No Test) placed first in free skate.

The team is coached by Mark Vasarhelyi.
