Class B basketball: Region tourneys underway

Carrington, Harvey, Langdon and Rolla-Rock Lake all made it through the opening round of the Region 4 Girls’ Basketball Tournament at the Devils Lake Sports Center on Monday.
Carrington utilized 18 points from Sierra Rosenau and 13 more from Becca Scherr to get past Minnewaukan-Leeds 55-35. Carrington held a commanding 20-7 lead after one period.
Sheyenne Schneider tossed in a game-high 23 points to lead the District 7 champion Harvey Hornets past Munich-Starkweather 68-37. Harvey also built a comfortable lead in the opening period, as 9 points from Schneider helped contribute to a 22-8 Harvey advantage to start the second.
A last-second buzzer beater helped Langdon come from behind to beat Midkota 52-50. Midkota trailed after each period, but came back to tie the game 50-50 late in the fourth.
Langdon was led by Breanna Mack with 18 points, while Midkota’s Shaye Ronningen paced the Mustangs with 15.
The Rolla-Rock Lake Bulldogs hit more three-pointers than two-pointers, but 26 points from Heather Carlson and a 16 of 20 team performance from the line helped propel the Bulldogs past New Rockford-Sheyenne 54-44.
The Rockets, the defending Region 4 champs, led 24-21 at the half, but two treys from Jayde Guilbert and seven of Amber Volanti’s 11 points helped Rolla-Rock Lake to a 40-31 advantage after three.
Carrington rolls on to face Langdon in today’s semifinals, while Harvey will take on Rolla-Rock Lake.

Region 1
North Sargent, Central Cass, Hankinson and Milnor each won opening-round games at the Region 1 Tournament in Wahpeton.
North Sargent got on top of Fargo Oak Grove 19-10 after one quarter and never trailed, beating the Grovers 48-34.
Riley Peterson and Jenica Bohenkamp had 14 points each for the Bobcats in the win.
Central Cass advanced despite trailing 11-7 after one quarter to Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah.
But the Squirrels outscored the Rebels 41-26 over the final three quarters.
Taylor Kraft and Hannah Breske had 15 and 13 to lead the winners.
Three Hankinson players scored in double figures as they had little trouble with Enderlin, 52-33.
Casey Geffre led the way with 17 points for the Pirates.
Alexa Dixson’s 10 topped the Eagles.
Shelby Krueger scored 19 points for Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page, but it was not enough as the Spartans were knocked off by Milnor 47-42.
Milnor, which led 18-9 after one quarter, got 17 points from Paige Tompkins.

Standing Rock, New Salem-Almont, Underwood and Turtle Lake-Mercer are into the semifinals of the Region 5 tournament in Mandan.
Shauna Long had 20 for Standing Rock in its 56-46 win over Washburn.
Alex Leidholm led the Cardinals with 13 points.
New Salem-Almont and Sheridan County struggled mightily with the Holsteins scoring 22 fourth-quarter points in a 40-33 win.
Emily Wolf was the lone player in double figures in the game with 13 points for the Holsteins.
Underwood scored just nine first-half points, but outscored Grant County 32-21 in the second half for a 41-33 win.
Alix Buck topped the Comets with 15 points.
Ashley Bentz had 20 of Grant County’s 33.
Turtle Lake-Mercer didn’t allow Flasher more than 11 points in any quarter en route to a 45-35 win.
Kelsey Everett led the Trojans with 16 points, while Jordyn Sondrol added 15 and Jenna Bayless 12.
