Explosion in Edina levels house; no injuries

EDINA, Minn. (AP) — A house explosion in Edina prompted the evacuation of about 50 homes Tuesday while officials worked on fixing a gas leak.

Spokespeople with the Edina Fire Department and with CenterPoint Energy say the residents of the house that exploded were not home and are safe. The house appears to be leveled.

CenterPoint Energy spokesman Becca Virden says there were no injuries.

Officials say a third-party contractor was working on a gas line when it was punctured around 12:45 p.m. That prompted authorities to begin evacuating homes within a two-block radius, while utility officials began repairing the line.

The explosion happened shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Authorities were on the scene Tuesday evening, repairing the line and shutting off gas flow to the area.
