N.D. man gets 3 years for suffocating child
A man accused of killing a child in Fargo when he got drunk and rolled on top of her on a couch while baby-sitting the child has been sentenced to serve three years in prison.
FARGO (AP) — A man accused of killing a child in Fargo when he got drunk and rolled on top of her on a couch while baby-sitting the child has been sentenced to serve three years in prison.
Forty-six-year-old Arthur Berger said in court Wednesday that he is haunted by what happened to the 2-month-old daughter of friends last October.
An autopsy showed the child died of suffocation. Tests showed that Berger was legally drunk at the time.
He pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and abuse or neglect of a child, and will be on probation for seven years following his prison term.
