Fargo planning to get dirt for dikes

FARGO (AP) — Fargo officials are planning where to get dirt for dikes as the city prepares for Red River flooding this spring.

Last spring, when the river rose to a record level in the city, officials had to use tons of dirt from areas near two schools to build dikes in a hurry.

This year, the city has more time to plan and intends to use dirt from city-owned land north and south of Fargo.

Fargo Schools Superintendent Rick Buresh said if the city needs dirt from the schools, they’ll be willing to share again.
