VA clinic will close if no new contract

An estimated 800 patients of the Dickinson VA clinic may have to travel elsewhere for care if it can’t secure a new care contract soon. The community-based outpatient clinic has a contract with Great Plains Clinic to provide care, but it expires May 1.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — An estimated 800 patients of the Dickinson VA clinic may have to travel elsewhere for care if it can’t secure a new care contract soon.

The community-based outpatient clinic has a contract with Great Plains Clinic to provide care, but it expires May 1.

If a new care contract — either with Great Plains or another group — isn’t signed by then, the clinic will close. Patients will have to travel to VA clinics in Williston, Bismarck or Sturgis, S.D.

Peggy Wheelden of the VA medical center in Fargo said bids are being accepted for a new contract. She declined to say whether Great Plains was bidding.

The Dickinson clinic has been open for three years.
