Blue Jays face Minot in West Region openers

The Jamestown boy’s and girl’s basketball teams will both open the West Region Tournament Thursday against the Minot Magicians. The Blue Jay boys enter as the No. 4 seed and will start play at 4:15 at the Bismarck Civic Center Main Arena. The Jays, who carry a 10-9 record to Bismarck swept the Magicians during the regular season, winning in Minot 76-75 Dec. 18 and then here 62-57 Feb. 4. The girls, who are the sixth seed heading into the tournament, will be tipping off at 7:15 at the Bismarck Civic Center Exhibit Hall.

The Jamestown boy’s and girl’s basketball teams will both open the West Region Tournament Thursday against the Minot Magicians.

The Blue Jay boys enter as the No. 4 seed and will start play at 4:15 at the Bismarck Civic Center Main Arena. The Jays, who carry a 10-9 record to Bismarck swept the Magicians during the regular season, winning in Minot 76-75 Dec. 18 and then here 62-57 Feb. 4.

The girls, who are the sixth seed heading into the tournament, will be tipping off at 7:15 at the Bismarck Civic Center Exhibit Hall.

The Jays (7-12) and Majettes (13-6) split during the regular season, highlighted by an impressive 68-46 win here Feb. 4. Minot was ranked fifth in the state at the time.

It takes two wins, regardless of the order to reach the state tournament, which also will be held in Bismarck March 11-13.

The JHS girls have been to the state tournament two of the last three years.

The Blue Jay boys have not gone to state since 2001.
