JC Choir leaving for tour of performances

The Jamestown College Choir, one of the oldest touring choirs in the Midwest, will perform on its regional tour throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota during spring break.

The Jamestown College Choir, one of the oldest touring choirs in the Midwest, will perform on its regional tour throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota during spring break.

The choir will perform in the following churches on these dates: March 7, Zion Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, S.D.; March 8, First Presbyterian Church, Minot; March 9, Wesley United Methodist Church, Grand Forks; March 10, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, Minn.; March 11, Glen Avon Presbyterian Church, Duluth, Minn.; and March 13, Becker Baptist Church, Becker, Minn.

The tour will conclude in Jamestown with a performance at 3 p.m. March 21 at St. James Basilica.

For more than 90 years, the choir has toured throughout the United States and Europe. The choir is preparing for a tour of China in May.

J. Aaron McDermid is director of choral activities at Jamestown College. Before coming to James-town, McDermid was the conductor and artistic director of the Tucson Masterworks Chorale. He has also served as the assistant conductor of the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club, and director of choral activities at Northfield High School, Northfield, Minn. In 1999, McDermid was named Outstanding Young Choral Conductor by the American Choral Director’s Association of Minnesota.
