The campaign will be launched during the Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons Annual Meeting on May 1, in Aberdeen, S.D. “We have the opportunity to be an advocate for long-term and lasting changes in cell phone behaviors,” said Tami-Haug Davis, CEO of Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons.
According to Candy Van Dam, Partner of Insight Marketing design, “the comprehensive media campaign will include television, radio, social network sites and billboard advertisements to encourage teens and adults to stop texting and talking while behind the wheel of a car. Additionally, through the leadership of Girl Scouts across the council, other community organizations and businesses will have an opportunity to support and be a part of this important movement,” she said.
Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons will launch a grassroots effort that involves all Girl Scout members. Whether Girl Scouts are passing out stickers at parades or working with state and national leaders to sponsor legislation, the goal is to give girls and adults the real statistics and the potentially deadly consequences of phone use while driving.
“This is an initiative that weaves into our leadership experience for girls and encompasses every level of our organization,” said Haug-Davis.
The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
