BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A memorial service is scheduled for a late Bismarck-area man who gained national attention for fighting communism during the Cold War.
Floyd Boutrous helped develop Radio Free Europe in the 1950s. The group aired broadcasts behind the Iron Curtain and launched balloons filled with pamphlets over communist Europe in 1954 for people who were deprived of news.
Boutrous died Tuesday at a Mandan nursing home. He was 93. A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. George Episcopal Church.
