Letter to the editor: ‘Run’ raises money for worthy causes

Once again we are nearing the “Running o’ the Green.” And though I am well aware that this is a controversial subject every year, I would like to go on the positive side and remind people that it is for a very good cause. Larry Knoblich and his “little leprechauns” have spent endless hours organizing this event, to try to make it a fun and safe fundraiser.

Two things we cannot deny, are the fact that it brings a lot of revenue to Jamestown and that it goes to a wonderful cause. If the runners do it the right way and register and pay the small entry fee, that money in turn is used to support Camp Grassick and donations are also made to local cancer patients. For every dollar the run makes, Dakota Medical Foundation donates another dollar to Camp Grassick.

I lost my dad to cancer and I, for one, would love to see as much help given to anyone going through this terrible time. So I would like to send out a friendly challenge to all the businesses in town: If you profit from this great event, please, please consider matching our donation of $100 to these wonderful people. It will make you feel good!

Also, runners: please, please register and pay the entry fee! And as always please drink responsibly and don’t drive. There are lots of taxis and lots of people donating their time to drive you home safely!
