Hillsboro getting broadbrand upgrade

About 800 sites in the Traill County town of Hillsboro will be getting a broadband upgrade as part of 22 broadband infrastructure projects nationwide being funded with federal stimulus money.

HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) — About 800 sites in the Traill County town of Hillsboro will be getting a broadband upgrade as part of 22 broadband infrastructure projects nationwide being funded with federal stimulus money.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said more than $254 million is being invested in the projects.

The Halstad Telephone Company is getting a $246,500 loan and $246,500 grant for the Hillsboro project, which also has a $7,000 private investment.

The company is getting a much larger loan and grant for a similar project in Minnesota’s Norman and Polk counties.
