Cards, Bearcats to meet for title

Top-ranked North Star and seventh-ranked Carrington will square off for the Region 5 title Thursday night in Devils Lake. The Cardinals advanced with a 57-45 win over Starkweather-Munich. Tied 14-all after eight minutes, Carrington took a 28-22 lead into the break and led the rest of the way.

Top-ranked North Star and seventh-ranked Carrington will square off for the Region 5 title Thursday night in Devils Lake.

The Cardinals advanced with a 57-45 win over Starkweather-Munich. Tied 14-all after eight minutes, Carrington took a 28-22 lead into the break and led the rest of the way.

Jackson Unruh led a balanced Carrington attack with 16 points. Easton Page added 12 for the Cardinals and Devin Barton was also in double figures with 10.

Travis Beck led Starkweather-Munich with 17 points.

In the second semifinal, North Star outscored New Rockford-Sheyenne 37-26 in the second half to slowly pull away for a 65-51 victory.

Tanner Komrosky led all scorers with 20 points for the Bearcats. Daniel Grande and Grant Lindahl added 11 apiece for the winners.

Stephen Guler poured in a game-high 25 points for the Rockets, who led 14-13 after the first quarter. Dalton Weber tossed in 10.

Region 5

Tournament host Shiloh Christian will play for a spot in the state ‘B’ on its home court after beating New Salem 55-45 in the Region 5 semifinals Tuesday night.

The Skyhawks will face Turtle Lake-Mercer after the Trojans buried Wilton 56-32.

Aaron Hultstrand came off the bench to lead Shiloh with 17 points. Austin Friesen added 12 points and 13 rebounds as they outscored the Holsteins 17-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Jared Kautzman led New Salem with 17 points.

Turtle Lake-Mercer blew its semifinal with Wilton open in the second quarter, outscoring the Miners 23-8 in the frame.

Grant Singer’s 24-point, 14-rebound double-double led the Trojans in the rout.

Lorin St. Claire topped the Miners with 12.
