Violet Tahran, 87, Portland, Ore., formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Hopewell Hospice House, Portland. Violet Fischer was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of August and Magdalena (Pfiefle) Fischer.
Violet Tahran, 87, Portland, Ore., formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Hopewell Hospice House, Portland.
Violet Fischer was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Streeter, N.D., the daughter of August and Magdalena (Pfiefle) Fischer. She attended Streeter schools and graduated from Molar Barber College, Minneapolis. She married Henry Tahran on Jan. 1, 1944. They worked in Tahran’s Barber Shop for 50 years. For years she was one of the only female barbers in the state. They also owned a small farm, real estate and other small business interests in Jamestown and Fargo, N.D. They lived in Jamestown from about 1930 until 1996. He died in 1996. She moved to Portland in 1996. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, Jamestown, serving on various committees, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was also active in PTA and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, craft work, writing and receiving letters.
She is survived by three sons, Russell, Dilworth, Minn., Ralph (Chris), Portland, and Rodney (Thuy), Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Ruby (Randy) Harris, Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Lena Vossler, Kent, Wash.; four sisters-in-law, Arva Dell Tahran and Olga Fischer, both Jamestown, and DeAnn Fischer and Gracie Fischer, both Iowa; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Harry and Norman; and a sister, Ruth.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Wilsonville, Ore.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, at a later date.
