Alex Schweitzer, administrator of the State Hospital, clarified his statement made at the Monday governing board concerning the releases by judges of individuals from the sex offender treatment unit quoted in a story in Tuesday’s Sun titled “Secure Services releases seven in 2009.”
“The judges actually go through a thorough review process of the testimony presented by the hospital and outside evaluators and make an informed decision based on the testimony,” he said Tuesday in an e-mail to The Sun. “Discharges from the inpatient program are only made if the judge determines that the patient no longer meets criteria by law for inpatient treatment.”
