Wellness center expansion trimmed
North Dakota lawmakers have refused a request to add a skywalk, climbing wall and extra equipment to a proposed student wellness center at Minot State University.
BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota lawmakers have refused a request to add a skywalk, climbing wall and extra equipment to a proposed student wellness center at Minot State University.
Last year the Legislature approved $10 million to build the center. On Thursday, Minot State officials asked a legislative budget committee to raise the ceiling to almost $12.8 million.
The panel approved raising the maximum to $10.9 million to allow construction of a basement for the project. The rest of the proposed additions were denied.
Bismarck Rep. Mark Dosch said Minot State should have its deferred building maintenance taken care of before the school does building expansions.
