Sandbags piling up in Linton

LINTON, N.D. (AP) — Sandbags are piling up in the south central North Dakota town of Linton as residents work to hold off a repeat of the devastating flooding that occurred last year.
Beaver Creek is expected to rise to 14.8 feet later this week, causing major flooding. The creek reached an all-time high of 18.83 feet last year, washing out bridges and roads and swamping about 70 homes.
Kristen Vetter, Emmons County extension agent and flood volunteer coordinator, said real problems seem to start around 15.5 feet, so officials are hoping this year’s flooding will not be as bad. She said the community also is more prepared.
Mylo Kramer and his family had to be rescued by boat last year. This year he’s using thousands of sandbags, six pumps and other measures to protect his home.
