Williston gears up for annual mosquito battle

City officials in Williston are gearing up for the annual battle with mosquitoes.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — City officials in Williston are gearing up for the annual battle with mosquitoes.

The effort will mimic last year's, utilizing city equipment, a local spraying service and an Air Force unit that sprays from planes. The unit is to be in Williston in early June and late July.

City workers already have started removing equipment from winter storage and ordering chemicals.

The Williston region has long had mosquito problems because the Missouri River often floods low-lying areas in the spring, creating thousands of acres of standing water that are ideal for mosquito breeding.
