Jamestown High School’s Brian Sinner and Allison Allmer proved to be among the state’s best on Friday.
Sinner, a senior jumper for the Jays, finished first in the high jump to help the Jamestown boys finish ninth at the Class A state indoor meet in Fargo.
“He was pretty excited,” said Jays boys coach Ken Gardner. “He struggled at 6 feet and then made it on his third jump. It’s good to see him jumping well.”
Allmer led the pack in the 800 after crossing the finish line in 2:26.60, edging second-place finisher Erin Valenti, from Fargo South, by almost three seconds.
The girls finished eighth with a team score of 34.
Nikki Iverson also produced for the Jamestown girls, placing in three different events.
The senior finished runner-up in both the long jump and the triple jump while placing fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Senior Kara Nygaard also left with a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
JHS’s Matt Johnson and Tyler Meilke also had high finishes in their respective field events.
Johnson placed third in the triple jump and Meilke finished third in the shot put.
“He’s continuing to improve,” said Gardner of Meilke. “He’s getting a little more confidence.”
Spencer Komoni paced the way for the Jamestown distance runners, finishing sixth in both the 800 and the 1-mile run.
“It’s nice to get out and see what the state has to offer,” Gardner said. “The outdoor meet isn’t too far away.”
Another highlight was Jordan Lynch in the pole vault.
In his first meet he finished ninth with a vault of 11-feet, 6 inches.
“It’s nice to see him do well and also see room for improvement,” said Gardner.
The Jays will be back in action Thursday at the John Huth Indoor meet in Aberdeen, S.D.
