MINOT (AP) — The deadline is nearing for rural residents south and east of Minot who want to get in on a proposed rural water project.

The North Central Rural Water Consortium plans to begin construction this summer on a $7 million rural water supply system covering parts of McHenry, McLean, Pierce, Sheridan and Ward counties. It will include the communities of Anamoose and Benedict.

The proposed project will include about 380 miles of pipeline and serve more than 400 households. Engineer Wade Senger said the numbers are based on people who participated in an initial study, but not all have signed up yet.

The user fee paid at signup will double once the project goes to bid, which is expected to happen within a month. Construction is expected to finish in the fall of 2011.
