The Jamestown Branch of AAUW will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Buffalo Mall Community room (near the AAUW used bookstore). The program is open to the public.

The program will highlight facts and figures of Equal Pay Day. Nationally women average 77 cents to a man’s dollar in wages. To match men’s earnings for 2009, women have to work from Jan. 1, 2009, to April 20, 2010 – known as Equal Pay Day. Over a working lifetime, this disparity amounts to between $440,000 and $2 million for women. That is why women at ages 66 and older are twice as likely to be poor.

The AAUW is working to raise awareness about continuing pay disparities between men and women and the need to change public policies around this issue. Learn about the AAUW research, public policy victories and the paycheck fairness act. Also hear how women in North Dakota compare to the national statistics and what people can do to make a difference.
